Kinda sucks for the work previously put in. Does not personally bother me (which is why I post on behalf of those it might Big Grin ) but seems a bit of a snub

How many actually used Zybez in the end though and come to think of it, how many are registered and are going to use these forums?

It's not about who used it at the end, it's about who put in time to make it what it was.

You could probably make that argument for everyone who’s made the jump from Zybez to these boards, in one form or another.

A pip and a color change is a fine way to recognize exceptional members who have spent thousands of hours on Zybez. There really does not need to be anything more than that at this moment.

It looks like double standards with Yoto, Wee, and Kevin keeping Smod. And whilst you've very kindly given me Mod again, why am I different to duck, Toe, and Magick?

First of all, howdy Murdoc, nice seeing you after six years haha.

Secondly, and more to the point: In my mind, a balanced approach should be taken here. Like you said, a total permanent rank reset would probably be a bad idea. I've seen it done before with mass demotions, but at this point in the starting stages of a new community, it would be demoralizing to a lot of individuals who have spent many hundreds or thousands of hours on the old forums as stewards of the community. On the other hand, I think giving everybody back their ranks immediately would not be great optics...it would look top-heavy to have the majority of people be ranked, and it would not provide much growth area from newer members who are joining RSC from other forums that may get shut down, or Redditors who want to have a part of a chill forum environment.

Instead, I would propose that anybody who had a rank is grandfathered in and can earn it back after posting a certain amount on the board. It could be something like 25 or 50 posts per rank that you had. If somebody had been ranked, it's unlikely they'll be spamming to get there, as they would not have earned their rank in the past if they were spammers. However, if each of the SeMes+ posted 25 or 50 times, think about how much more active the forum would be.

That is why they would bother posting again. No embarrassment, and no need to move on. Enjoy time in the community with your friends and acquaintances, and it's basically a formality that they then get it back. If they want to stick around, they can. If they can't post that much, they probably don't care that much anymore.

And it is critical during these first few weeks/months for the forum to be active. Many of us who just popped in to say our goodbyes have considered sticking around to say a few more hellos. If the forum is inactive, that wave of individuals could disappear, and anyone else who wanted to stop by might not join, and this experiment could quickly fail. In the past, RSC grew quickly out of necessity to understand the game and communicate with others. Now, its staying power in RuneScape's twilight is through an intimate forum community experience that Reddit and others can't hope to match. Having active posting right now is essential, and having some post count incentives here for the ranks could be just the kind of organic kickstart that it needs to take root and begin a state of solid growth.

I don't disagree with you but I also recognise we don't need a 10+ deep staff team right now which was what I was told when I originally brought it up a few days ago. Realistically it's up to W what he wants to do, having you and Kevin brought in was a means of broadening the discussion instead of 3 people (2 of which were primarily Clan Discussion staff) discussing and deciding how everything should be set up. As for why your names were brought up it was just down to who was active on here and who could give a different perspective as opposed to who was "worthy" of it.

I agree.
There are many people who simply wanted to end their journey on Zybez Forums and then move on with their lives. I can respect that.

And to have these stale "ranks" where people login once every 5 years isn't going to help this Community.

I'm all for incentives for active members, but we have to tread carefully not to dilute the reward (and dilute the regular "Member" group) by having too many confusing ranks. (Honored, Esteemed, Senior, Exclusive, etc. etc.)

Former mods from Zybez Forums who wish to remain active are welcomed here and we can have them be moderators here to help out as well. Not an issue for me.
don't know if its possible to implement on these forums but why not have people's rank go up based on activity, the bitcoin forum has a system where you can get i believe up to 14 points every 2 weeks for posting on average once a day during that period and eventually you get new member titles(noob, junior, member, hero, legendary) , the ranks don't give any extra powers but people care about them a lot on there, also you should have donator badges to help pay for tournament prizes which would bring a ton of activity, people love having thiny things next to their name even if they don't do anything

There is a group promotion system but it's tied completely to post count I believe, personally I think that'd be a nice way to use the Exclusive group from the old boards, set it to X amount of posts required. As W13 mentioned diluting the member group isn't what we want to do right now.
I'm fine with it either way, I think my moderating generally came down to banning/hiding spam and encouraging conversation, giving my insight on stuff in mod boards. I'm cool just to chat and give insight, we seem to have more responses and discussion here then we did really on zybez so that's quite interesting lol, I'm sure it will die down later on.

If it's just senior mods and mods that retain ranks its probably not the worst thing in the world and its not like we really have that much of an issue with misbehaving, if that becomes the case later down the track then maybe a system like we had before would be cool too.
