I wanted to know when this began and who started it.

"On July 1, 1908, the residents of Port Arthur, Ontario, today's Thunder Bay, turned their clocks forward by 1 hour to start the world's first DST period."

Blame it on Canada!
DST always confused me when running zybez events as a 15 year old...
Moved to OT.

DST is awful. It should always be the summer hours.
You made me have to google when DST time started. I didn't want to be an hour late to school. Confused
Sorry for that, us Canadians hate it as well
DST makes sense for some countries with weird light hours, though.

Over here, without DST it would be light at 3 am.. and dusk already at 930. But we need the winter time or else it is merely starting to get light during winter at 10...

Originally Dutch time was meant to be ahead 25 minutes of the UK clock and there was no DST so I suppose it was light early too..
It sounds like Canada was perhaps the first to implement it, but the idea itself was apparently conceived by Benjamin Franklin. It made more sense in the past when it came to organizing events around agriculturally based societies, but I wonder if it's relevance has passed and whether it's just a better idea to never adjust at all.
