Return of RuneScape Community - W13 - 09-02-2018

Hello friends,

This forum been online in one form or another since 2001. During all these years, it has changed names, changed domains, and changed the underlying forum software several times.

You can say this is one of those times.

As of now, we're back to using the domain runescapecommunity.com and we're now using myBB as the forum software, rather than IP.Board. Also, we were forced to make this a clean start, unable to bring any old posts or registered accounts with us.
  • 2001: The earliest trace of these forums is June 2001 on a hosted forum provider called RevampScripts. They were called "RunescapeHelp Site's Message Board". Sometime around this time, these forums were also hosted on AvidGamers.com. Each time, it was a fresh start.
  • 05 November 2001: Domain Zybez.com registered. The website "RuneScape Help" and the forums were shortly moved to it. The software used was OpenBB and then switched to InvisionPowerBoard. There was at least one fresh start due to losing data during a software upgrade.
  • 03 November 2002: Domain runescapecommunity.com registered. The forums moved from http://www.zybez.com/community/ to http://www.runescapecommunity.com.
  • 20 July 2003: Fresh start after the site and forums were hacked and forums were made unrecoverable.
  • 13 April 2005: The domain zybez.com was accidentally lost, so the website and forum was moved to zybez.net.
  • 15 January, 2007: URL changed from http://www.runescapecommunity.com to http://www.zybez.net/community .
  • 2009: Forum URL changed from http://www.zybez.net/community to http://forums.zybez.net . Henceforth officially known as Zybez Forums. Zybez was acquired by Curse in June 2009 and these forums were part of that ownership change.
  • 15 May 2013: An old version of Zybez.net relaunched as 2007RsHelp.com for Old-School RuneScape players. The name "Zybez" still belonged to Curse. They permitted 2007RsHelp.com to be operated by me (using Zybez's old files) independently of Zybez as long as it didn't use the name "Zybez".
  • 15 September 2018: Zybez Forums ( http://forums.zybez.net ) closed and set to read-only mode by Curse. The forum database that had been accumulating registered accounts and posts since 2003 was not made available to me by Curse. I put RSC ( https://runescapecommunity.com ) online again as a clean start on a fresh install of MyBB. With the decreasing popularity of RuneScape and the online forum model, I was faced with the decision to simply let this story end on 15 September 2018, or to try to do something about it. After many people's calls to put up an alternative forum, at least for nostalgia's sake, I decided to use the old domain ( runescapecommunity.com ) which I still had for some reason and put up this fresh copy of a forum. If nothing else, let it be a place to congregate now and then and feel the nostalgia.

I really miss the golden age of forums, social media does not have that interpersonal building.

It was interesting to read that piece of history.

RE: Return of RuneScape Community - W13 - 09-04-2018

I also owned Draynor.net (that Rs signature provider) and RuneHead.com (that ancient clan ML provider). But due to dropping traffic and lack of time/effort for maintenance, I let the Draynor.net expire (just last month), and pointed RuneHead.com to this website.

Believe it or not, traffic on 2007RsHelp.com is still pretty decent. I'm currently in the process of rewriting parts of the ancient backend so it can run on PHP 7 (... I believe it was written for PHP 4). So, I'll be keeping that site online just because thousands of people continue to find it useful. I won't have time to update/maintain it though. I'll be keeping these forums online ... just cuz. King

It's cool to see, back to the roots. I'm sure people will post every now and then if just to see how things are going and if there is some sort of link quite easily viewable on the main page when it shuts down then there shouldn't be much to worry about.

Glad RSC isn't completely vanishing.
