I don't expect any brand new players to flock to OSRS, given how established so many other titles are on mobiles now (as usual - Jagex is a day late and a dollar short...), but without a doubt it will pull/is pulling back a fair few retired folk. The app actually looks great on tablets, and I can imagine many an hour is being wasted at work these days by those committed adventurers haha.

Even if it doesn't bring new players it will definitely bump the "players online" numbers which is good for the game.

I hope to see new players come in, but I don't think we will have a huge increase in players. Just gotta wait and see now.

Yea mobile has currently increased the number of players online and I believe it will slowly grow its player-base but I find it hard to believe people who haven't played Runescape will stick around long considering how bad f2p is.

I've talked about this with mates, and I've come to the conclusion of this:

OSRS mobile will define and break the bar of games you can get out of an app shop on your phone.. Sure you can play some indie stuff, some Angry Birds, some really cool games, but it gets repetitive.

This would technically be the first(to my knowledge) fully fledged, 3d, well designed MMO available for a phone.

I had a buddy test how the game runs not just on IOS but on a 32 dollar Android phone. The results are amazing and it should bring new players in simply based on the factor it is free, and will be available right from your phone.

I think it will bring more players for a time, but jagex will come to a cross roads with making the game more mobile friendly and not changing it too much to make non-mobile players mad. Jagex has unfortunately never been great at compromising and always seem to tilt the balance one way or another (PvP vs PvM aspect), lets just hope they don't tip it too far in the mobile direction.

Yeah. And I doubt mobile gaming is a fad that's going away any time soon, which helps.

Better late than never as they say.

I am looking forward to the day I can scape on the toilet without awkwardly bringing a whole computer in there.

Who else imagined Ramu walking into the toilet like people go to LAN parties with a tower PC under one arm and gamer keyboard in the other?
