Question for you, when you decided to go with curse did they take over the hosting/rights to the db or how did it work?

Curse purchased the site totally. So, beyond that I had no control or say. They own the domain and host the site themselves. Basically their only goal is to ensure cashflow from ads on the site. Costs of maintaining a forum are pretty big and the advertising revenue is usually very small. So, that's why they've decided to make it read-only. That way, advertising will continue to generate some money from the traffic coming into Zybez Forums. And they don't have to worry about security, upgrading the forum software to patch bugs, etc. etc. etc.

Of course, that's pretty shitty for those who actually use the forums and call it home.  Hence, this.

If I'm not mistaken, No1 asked on our behalf but they refused.

Yeah, I'm sure that practically speaking, if Curse were a few-man small-time operation, they wouldn't care. But as part of a bureaucracy, they probably have processes they have to suffer through, and didn't want to deal with the legal headache of giving away what was theirs, even for a reasonable amount of money and under reasonable circumstances.

I've decided to keep the archive online permanently. (It had been put offline a while ago).

So if you're interested, here it is: https://zybez.runescapecommunity.com/forums.zybez.net/index.html

The link seems to be down now - did you take them back offline?
