for my part the hatreds and rivalries were what made clanning entertaining, outsmarting rivals and waiting for the rsc topic was the reason to stay up to 5 am on a saturday, gave up because didnt have the time and 8 years later there isn't a clan or person on rs i can still say i have anything against so i dont have the motivation to go in pvp let alone join a clan
the toxicity you describe is still very much alive in p2p scene so i dont think that can be the main reason our type of clans have died out. probably it just stopped being a good money maker which was the reason we used to pk back in the day? nowadays f2p multi drops aren't worth picking up and to get in a good p2p team you need to have hundreds of millions of gp worth of gear and be good at swithing overhead prayers and knowing where to run and log, the things that used to be no honour are now considered being "good at the game" , which new players aren't
