I know reading is for huge losers who waste XP, but I'm always on the prowl for favorite pieces of literature. What's a favorite here? Is there a book or story you can always return to and love it every time?

For me, that book is Gone-Away World by Nick Harkaway. It combines every B-movie plot element you can imagine - post-apocalypse, ninjas, kung fu, military drama, fantasy, and so on - and elevates it in a way that made me tear up in the end. Never thought it was possible until I read this story, which was funny, silly, and for some reason emotionally resonant. I've read it and listened to it a combined total of perhaps six or seven times, and I'd pick it up again in a heartbeat if I still had my copy (I gave it to a friend).

Anyone here have anything like that?

Outside of the harry potter series (5 is the best don't @ me) my favourite read was Ready Player One, I was surprised to see how much hate the book got in once the film was announced.

I always thought the 4th book was the best. It was a fresh kind of entry into the series since books 1 - 3 were small books for children. The rest were good, but the jump from 3 to 4 was kind of magic.

I actually listened to Ready Player One on audio book and quite enjoyed it. Worth picking up, the reader does a really good job.

I don't agree that 1-3 were for small children, at least not 3, that story was a lot darker compared to the first 2, that's why it was my favourite up until the release of 5. I don't dislike 4 but I just enjoy 5 and 3 much more.

Here's my order from best to worst: 5, 3, 6, 7, 4, 1, 2.

That's fair enough, I suppose. The themes are definitely dark enough to be enjoyed by someone a little older - I guess I meant I didn't feel like I was sinking my teeth into much until I hit 4. I found 3 to be a little awkward, since it was in an odd transition period between being for children and graduating to a teen/young adult series.

Ye, I can agree with that. I just felt the story kind of picked up a bit in 3 which got me hooked to the series as a whole.

I just finished picking up a book called Kill the Farm Boy. If anyone's read Robert Lynn Asprin's Mythadventures series, Discworld, or the like, this seems like a real good one.
